Consider not only the benefit to the youth of your area, but the fun and
fellowship that you will receive by being a member of an Optimist Club
with its motto
"Friend of Youth". Contact one of these clubs
to receive a club meeting invitation or attend an activity to see Optimism
in action. We look forward to talking with you! Thanks for
visiting - please bookmark it as a favourite and inform others of our easy
web address: www.ocdr.org.
An Optimist is a member of a community service club geared to help the
youth in the local community. Each club runs hands-on programs most
needed by the community as decided by its club members. In addition,
we also provide significant funding to other organizations for the running
of their own programs. By being a member of an Optimist club the
member grows as an individual by learning more about their community, gaining
many friends with similar goals and improving the community that he or
she lives in.
Optimist
International (OI) was founded on June 19, 1919 and there are now 114,000
members in 3,500 clubs who are helping youth.
OI is divided in 54 Districts and one of them is Central Ontario District
which has 1,824 members in 68 clubs (reported Feb. 4, 2004). Central
Ontario District, in turn, is divided into 10 Zones and one of them is
Zone 8 - the Optimist Clubs of Durham Region. In addition to the
occasional joint project between clubs, the clubs in our zone meet four
times a year to share experiences, learn from each other and from guest
speakers, and share the camaraderie of our mutual goal to enjoy fun and
fellowship while helping youth and community.
